Posted by jackie wing on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 2:05 am ADTHi, Last year, after digging and collecting potatoes in my garden, I buried the plants stalks and leaves in the ground. Now, I realize, that may have been a really dad choice. Will this be detrimental to planting anything in the soil this year? What plants would grow well under those circumstances? Will this affect what I can plant there in the future? Or, am I worrying about nothing? Help, Jackie in Calgary

Posted by Peter James on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 4:54 pm ADTI Don't think you have anything to worry about(other than more potatoes growing in your compost pile!!!) My Father and I have been doing it for yrars along with rubarb leaves and tomatoe stalks it is all organic matter and will easily compost. If you are worried add a little compost boost it will speed up the composting prosess and ph test kit will tell you what acidity your soil is good for!! I hope this helps. Peter
