Gardeners’ Forum: “looking for a formula for soilless seedling soil”
Back to Gardeners’ Forumlooking for a formula for soilless seedling soil
Posted by Vincent Young on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 12:59 pm ADTI have a hobby green house and I am looking for a formula for a soilless seedling soil. I was told what to use but not the quantities. I have the peat moss, vermiculite, super phosphate, and lime but not the amounts I should use. Vince

Posted by Howard Harvey on Saturday, April 28, 2001 1:02 pm ADTI have used 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 soilless commercial grow mix and 1/3 peatmoss plus a tablespoon of lime to a gallon of mix as a seed starter mix. I sift this to make a clump-free starter mix. I have also used 30% commercial grow mix, 30% peatmoss, 30% composted sheep manure, and 10% sand plus the same lime, as above, as a growing mix for larger transplants. Both seem to be fine. I hope it's not too late for 2000. Good luck!!
