Gardeners’ Forum: “cats and shrews, what do I do?”
Back to Gardeners’ Forumcats and shrews, what do I do?
Posted by sue on Monday, April 23, 2001 1:55 pm ADTI live in a residential area right next to a small forest. This causes several problems. Squirrels go after my spring bulbs (I actually have three tulips coming up right in the middle of my front lawn), cats use my gardens as a litter box, and I have recently been told that I have shrews. I have several gardens, two small children and a dog. I need to find something to rid the garden of these unwanted visitors that will be safe to use. Any suggestions?

Good Luck Peter PS I'm not quite sure it works on shrews so you better get some traps just in case..

Posted by Kevin Sullivan on Monday, May 28, 2001 5:23 am ADTI cannot offer any advice to control squirrels, but cats can be discouraged from the garden by growing catnip. We have two cats and quite a large garden. Simply grow some catnip in 2 gallon pots and place them in locations that cats frequent the most.
