Astilbe, Arum Italicum, Happy Returns Yellow Daylily, Wood Sorrel: Can any of these be planted in the fall? If not, what do I do with them over the winter? Thanks!

I stand corrected,if your astilbe, happy returns, and daylily are not bareroot you can plant in the fall, if the wood sorrel is redwood sorrel that can be planted in the spring, I have no info on the arcum italicum. I'm glad my daylilies cannot read cause they should not be alive. I planted a root last year and it survived under mulch. The other lilies, I usually move around in the fall and I mean established plants. I'm due to go dig up my neighbors daylilies and move some to my house and another neighbors and we've had a couple of heavy frosts and snow, we had snow last night. I don't have any plants that I overwinter in the house and I'm sure someone will send you some advice you can really use. Check the net, there is a few really good gardening sites. If you go back through this site you may find something about holding bulbs/roots until spring. Sorry about the lack of help. I should have checked more.

All of these perennials can be planted in the fall. If you are planting late, it may be helpful to mulch well to prevent the ground from freezing as early as normal. That will give the newly planted stuff longer to root in.
