Gardeners’ Forum: “Veseys Wish List”
Back to Gardeners’ ForumVeseys Wish List
Posted by Veseys on Monday, July 9, 2007 10:42 am ADTDear Gardener's Forum Users, Some of our very favourite variety introductions have come from customer's suggestions over the years. We're hoping that the Gardener's Forum is a good place to begin a thread where users can mention varieties that they have been looking for. Veseys may be able to carry the variety in fututre catalogues, or a fellow gardener might already have a source. Good luck!

Posted by Deborah Horcoff on Monday, July 16, 2007 7:45 pm ADTHello, Your Miniature Hollyhock “Brilliant” was advertised as a brilliant *red*, which is why I ordered it in the first place and paid a lot of money for it because it was rather expensive. However, mine have now bloomed and the flower colour on my Brilliants is a faded, nondescript PINK. Since then, I have discovered that there are Miniature Hollyhocks (Sidalcea) out there that actually are RED, or at least on the red side! Is there any way that you can offer these reddish ones??? Sidalcea 'Mrs. Borrodaile' Sidalcea 'William Smith' Sidalcea 'Wine Red' If you offered these beauties, I would very happily rip out my “Brilliant” Sidalcea mini hollyhocks and order these red ones immediately, then spread the word about them, particularly online. As it stands, the Brilliants have just left me with a bad taste (and poor colour) about misleading advertising. Many thanks, Deborah Horcoff Maple Ridge, BC

Posted by peihobby on Monday, July 23, 2007 4:53 pm ADThi Deborah; Yep, Vessey's seems to say a plant is a certain color but it isnt. I have purchased a few plants from them that were said to be a dark( almost black) color and they would be purple and not very dark. I have also purchased Monte Negro lillies which turned out to be a very light creme color, not what I wanted. So I would be careful when you want a specific color.

Squirrels
Posted by Cathy on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 11:27 am ADTAnyone have any ideas on how to keep squirrels from nesting in trees? We have a linden tree and the squirrels are stripping the branches to build nests and we're afraid its going to eventually kill our tree.

Posted by Stephanie MacDonald on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 4:06 pm ADTDear Deborah, any time a flower does not bloom 'true to type' we appreciate our customers letting us know. There may be a packaging error from our suppliers, or a shipping error by our staff. We will do our best to correct these problems. Also, we trial all of our plant material in our trial gardens. If there is a plant that is not up to our standards it will be discontinued from our product line. I will be using suggestions from the gardeners forum to make selections for the 2008 trial gardens. We appreciate everyone's input.

Mantis tiller
Posted by Linda on Sunday, January 27, 2008 7:09 pm ASTI have been looking at the mantis tiller but live in an area with lots of small rocks (inch or smaller) how will would this machine do in this type of soil. Have sieved the soil for years and the rocks still keep appearing. Anyone used this machine in any ground other that pure soil? How does it work?
