Wondering what would survive under a very large spruce tree, branches are about 6' from the ground.

Hi Shirley I have two very large spruce (30 year old) in my front yard garden. I have had great success with hostas, sedges and heucheras. I have had plantings for almost nine years and have found that they require watering well the first two seasons or so to get established and then they seem to do well after that with just the moisture they get from rain and some supplemental watering in very dry times. I also have Sedum 'Dragons Blood' at the edges of the plantng. A layer of mulch helps keep what moisture there is in the ground. It's a challenging site but the results have been worth it. Cheers Heather
