Not knowing much about the Mandevilla vine I planted it in my garden. It is doing very well. Do I dig it up to bring into the house or will this kill the plant?

This will be the second year I have bought a Mandevilla plant. I have been doing research about winterizing this vine. You will have to bring it indoors. You should clean out all dead leaves and fertilize with a 7-7-5 fertiziler, keep in an area that is warm and gets direct sunlight. I lost my last plant by not giving it direct sunlight. I just kept it by a window in the corner of my dining room that was a bright room and it did not survive. I think the answer is sun light. Good luck..

I am going to try for the first time to winterize my mandevilla - it is so beautiful I cant bear to let it die! So I will put it by my brightest basement window and do the 7-7-5 fertilizer tip and hope for the best! I presume I continue to water it throughout the winter? Thank you. I live close to Toronto, Canada, by the way - hope that doesn't make a difference to the advice!

When I bought my mandevilla plant, I checked the internet for info on this plant. It comes from a climate whose temperature doesn't go below 10C. So I took it in in the fall (gradually - outside during the warm days, inside during the cool nights until it was too cold). It lost alot of leaves and I thought I'm losing it. I put it in my sunniest window, treated it like my houseplants (water as needed) and once the worst of the leaf dropping was over I cut it back so that it looked full rather than sparse. It didn't bloom indoors, I didn't feed it and now that the weather is warming up, I bring it outside during the day and bring it in if it is below 10C at night. So far, so good. I will begin feeding it too.

I just bought my first mandevilla only around 12 inches right now. Do I plant it in the ground for direct sunlight all day long or is it a part shade plant???
