Posted by Sue Ellen on Monday, September 29, 2008 11:04 am ADTPinching simply means to cut back a long stem, so that the plant doesn't become leggy. Leggy means instead of having several short stems each producing flowers, you only have one very long stem. When you remove the growing tip of a stem either with scissors or by snapping it off with your hand, the plant will now produce two growing tips at this point, which will result in a bushier and more prolific plant.
