Posted by Bern on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 4:00 pm ADTI was just starting annual poppy seeds inside and the directions said to provide darkness. I have not started these inside before so I was wondering if I should just cover them or what? Thanks for any help.

Posted by tammy on Monday, April 28, 2008 10:22 pm ADTI have heard that poppies do not like to be transplanted and I truth I have never had any luch transplanting annuals. Better just to sow them into the garden after your last frost date. But in the matter of perenial poppies I have had great success starting them early 6-8 weeks and them transplanting them. Also the same poppies now three years old have self seeded and I have divided the clump into three separate plants earlier this fall. I don't expect many flower this year but all made it thru the winter have have good growth. My transplanting advice is this. Dig the new hole before you did up your plant, and take as much soil from around your plant as you can get on a shovel. I have rarely lost a plant to transplanting. Cheers, tammy
