I would like to know what could be planted that would bloom in the later part of the summer, say at the end of July through to the end of August or September. Most plants I have bloom in the first part of the summer and I would like something colourful for the end of summer.

My favourite late season perennials are Crocosmia, Echinacea, Reblooming Daylilies, Oriental Lilies, Liatris and Globe Thistle.

I have a favorite plant called toad lily and it just begins to flower in Sept. all the way until a heavy frost hits, usually about Halloween. There are others like turtlehead, sedum autumn joy, fall blooming New England asters, and some chrysanthemums. A friend of mine has a tall, pink bellflower that blooms in September. There is also an autumn crocus, monkshood, and plants like Black-eye-susans, that will flowers right up to a hard killing frost.
