Posted by Karen on Thursday, July 31, 2008 9:37 AM ADTa few weeks ago they were beautiful lots of blooms and flowers. Now nothing, they start to bloom and the flower starts coming out then it is all over, they don't make it and die off. I'm so upset because in the beginning they were beautiful and now the blooms keep dieing off, and I have tons of them. I have these healthy looking green bush with no flowers, can any one help me? Thanks Karen

There are years when they rarely bloom. <The summer of 2008 was the best I ever saw. Huge blooms and plants. The only thing I put it down to is lots of rain and sun. Dahlias do not like to dry out. If they do, the shut down and it is difficult to get them to rebloom. One year the flowers behaved the same as your problem. What I found was a strange beetle. (something like a lady bug but a lighter orange.and slightly narrower.) I used malathian on it and it seemed to help. I love dahlias but they are not easy to grow ;or store. I keep on doing it because when the growing conditions are perfect , there is nothing like them
