Tomatoes can take a lot of pruning, but the fruit needs to be shaded by leaves and the plant needs a certain amount of leaves to get energy. If you left the leaves and removed only the 'suckers', it will probably be okay, although it is always better to do a bit at a time, or remove the suckers when they are small to avoid a shock to the plant. The good news is that since you can't undo the pruning you've done, you might as well relax and hope for the best!

When I am pruning tomatoes I also take off the branches that are growing downward. They have big dark curly leaves. Is this correct?
