I need to move a few peonies, and was wondering if fall is the best time to do it. I live in zone 5b.

According to my notes from a plants class I'm taking, fall is the best time to *divide* peonies, so it's probably a safe bet that it's also best to move them then. The buds need to be buried only an inch or two below the soil surface, or else flowering can be affected. They like rich soil with lots of organic material. Not sure if it's too late in the fall now, I guess it depends on the weather forecast...
