Posted by Vanessa on Thursday, April 2, 2009 9:15 AM ADTCannas should be started indoors about 8 weeks before your expected last frost date. So if your frost date is in early June, you can start them now. From Veseys Planting Guide: Lay the roots on their sides and press firmly into a mixture of soil and peat moss until they are just covered. Water lightly until growth starts. When nights become warm (10-15°C) transplant to the garden, covering the roots with 4-5" of soil.
