I live in hardiness zone 2a - I have a pergola that I would like to surround with a beautiful climber - I like the yellow trumpet but it is poisonous??!! - Any suggestions on a suitable vine?

Hi Colleen, you may be limited by your hardiness zone when choosing a vine for your pergola. The yellow Trumpet Vine is only hardy to about zone 6, so unfortunately it would not survive your winter. Maybe in zone 2 the answer is to plant annual morning glory each spring or a similar, aggressive annual vine?

Hi Colleen, Vanessa has the right idea. Morning Glory is a very hardy vine and it will self seed the next year. Leave the vine over winter to die and in the early spring give the old vine a shake as you rip it down releasing seeds from the pods into the area where it will be growing. They are a very stury and surviving vine. Word of note. It is aggressive and will invade the area, so place it accordingly. I grew some over the trellis entering my vegetable garden and now every year I pick morning glory seedlings out of my rows of vegetables. They are truly beautiful.
