      do i cut back dead wood of spirea, wigealia in the spring, and when ie do i wait for last frost or no....do i cut back grasses.

      Just read your second message-for sun you can still use the coleus (make sure it's the larger sun tolerant variety) but, I would substitute licorice vine for the sweet potato and maybe some wave petunias, ivy geraniums or verbena. You could also use an annual fountain grass or a canna lily as you centrepiece. ONe year I did Tropicana Canna lily which has pink, green and orange stripes leaves with hot pink wave petunias and yellow bidens and it was stunning. H
