We bought strawberry plants and put them in hanging baskets, they did not do so good so now I want to know if I can plant them in the ground so they will not die?

You should be able to ground plant them with no problems as long as you regularily water them. The big problem with transplanting in the summer is the drying heat we have. Anything that is transplanted in other than early spring or late fall should be watered good. Good enough that the soil 6 inches down is damp. One of the big problems with strawberries in baskets is lack of water. There is a special breed of strawberries that grow many runners that are ideal in baskets as they hang down. Even these do great in the ground but the strawberry production might not be as great as some of your old standards.
