    hi there hope you can help me. my house faces the north. i have an overhang at the front of my house. i have a 4 foot garden from end to end which is in the shade till 4pm what i want is some beautiful colour there not just green or verigated leaves what can i plant that does well in the shade . i have hostas and ferns at present . i want more colour can someone help me with this problem. thanks i live in the city of the kawartha lakes.

      There is a varigated jacobs ladder that will bloom in the shade, expensive but beautiful, also have you thought about some astilbes, they come in really great colours and spread very well. they look great when planted in mass. good luck

      I have Monks Hood, Bleeding Heart, Lilly of the valley, perennail Geranium and Speedwells all growing on the north side of my house - early morning sun (4am - 6am) and late evening sun (6pm - 10pm). I live in northern BC. Zone 2 - 3. Hope this helps

      How about Coleus and impatiens, especially the new Guinea Impatiens and begonias.
