However, alot depends on what type of flowers you like. Check out the libary they probably have alot of books on the subject. You could also just drive around looking at what other people have(Take you camera) or if your bold knock on the peoples door and ask them about their flower bed.

Posted by Lisa on Thursday, July 5, 2007 8:07 pm ADTI am just starting out in the Horticulture area and I have used the following books and magazines for references: Better Homes & Gardens Special Interest Publications called Natures Garden Magazine, Easy-Care Gardens & Plans Magazine, Taunton's Fine Gardening Magazine, Lois (Hole) Spring Gardening The Ultimate Reference 2007, Ortho's Complete Perennial's Book are some suggestions. Chapters has an excellent selection. Before choosing a design its important to consider your zone, soil, sun, critters in the area (I found that out the hard way due to destructive chipmunks!). Other things to consider are the size that your prospective plants will grow (maturation size) for the area that you will use (found out in a Landscape design course). On a positive note, new gardens take time to grow and nuture and are thoroughly rewarding. Happy Gardening! Cheers!
