Knautia macedonica
Perennial. Hardy in Zones 4-7
Also known as ‘Mars Midget’. Sow onto a moist seed sowing soil. Cover lightly with vermiculite and propagate at 18 to 20°C (65-70°F). Germination should begin to take place after about 10 days. Grow the seedlings on in as cool a temperature as possible and shade from extremes of direct sunlight. Plant out in June (or after last frost date), 12-18" apart, into average, well-drained soils, in full sun. Prefers neutral to alkaline soils. Locate in areas protected from wind. Promptly remove spent flowers to promote additional bloom. Plants perform best in climates with cool summer nights. May be direct seeded into garden in early autumn. Makes an excellent cutflower.
