Grows best in full sun. Prefers well-drained soil, but can be useful in dry, rocky soil. Water often and deeply when young, it is drought tolerant once established. Can be pruned back hard to 2-3 buds from the base in early spring to promote large, brightly hued foliage. Otherwise, prune only to remove dead branches. The attractive foliage is excellent in floral arrangements. Purple Smokebush reach up to 4.5 meters (15 feet) in height and width.
