This is the famous Bird Feeder that took Canada by storm in 2011! Thousands of Canadians coast-to-coast loved this unique feeder that lets small birds dine in peace! The openings on this stylish feeder are just the right size for finches, nuthatches, chickadees and other small birds but are too small for jays and other feeder bullies. Globe Feeder

Unfortunately, the squirrels in my area are way too clever. At first they just knocked down the whole feeder, until I padlocked it to the tree. Then they still got at the seeds in the bottom, swinging the feeder around until more and more seeds fell into the bottom. Finally they figured out how to open the feeder and then went in head first to eat the seeds, all the way to the bottom. I have a photo.

Globe Feeder

I am enjoying the globe feeder and it appears many species of small birds are attracted to it. I have regular visitors such as, nuthatches, chickadees, juncos, goldfinches and house finches. Another visitor, the crafty squirrels have claimed victory over the feeder, they have no problem removing the lid and hopping down the feeder tube to devour the food in no time flat. Does anyone have a helpful tip for me to ensure they can't remove the latched lid? Thank you!

The best way to squirrel-proof the Globe Feeder Feeder - or any bird feeder - is to hang it from a free standing metal pole that is at least two metres high and well away from overhanging trees and shrubs. Attaching a metal cone (sometimes called a squirrel baffle) about half way up the pole to prevent squirrels climbing up would also help. It is difficult to squirrel-proof hanging bird feeders because squirrels can jump from a nearby tree and climb down the line. You may consider having a squirrel feeder as well as a bird feeder, thereby avoiding the conflict. If you start feeding during the winter, you should continue feeding because animals will depend on you for food.

Before I had this feeder, the little birds would be scared away when the starlings and other large birds arrived. Now the little ones keep eating, knowing that they're safe in the globe!
