My bush beans are being eaten by something. Its the primary leaves mostly but I have noticed that the stem underneath them also is chewed sometimes. What can I do to prevent this and what is causing it??

I too am having a bush bean problem. The plant was fully grown then chewed off about 2 inches from the ground. I have lettuce planted next to the beans undisturbed. What animal can this be and what to do???
