Because they were huge and I suspect, never divided, I did it. Will they come back this year and if so, will they bloom? I heard that peonies don't like to be moved around, but I read in a magazine last month about a couple who divided theirs several times with great success. What should I expect??? Thanks!

Dad divided them up and planted them along the driveway which must be about 150 feet long. He did this in July which is not a good time to move them. It has taken about 8 years but they are now quite large and very dramatic in the spring when they bloom. Just be careful not to plant them too deep.

Posted by Jane Barry on Friday, April 13, 2001 12:52 pm ADTseveral years ago, I divided peonies into a number of smaller groups, pretty well massacreing them, and they bloomed the next year. They now have grown in size and bloom really well. They survive long winters in raised beds too. Good luck!
