  • Bulbs in containers

I am a novice gardener and would like to know if I can plant tender bulbs in pots, burying them in the garden for the season and then dig up the pot to leave in a cool dry place over winter. Seems like a time saver, but will it work?

I don't see why it won't work as long as all other needs are met. Bulbs usually need to dry out completely and then some may need a very little dampness. I'm not sure if you can control this in a pot. You may end up with rotted bulbs. There are two other factors I can think about. When you take the bulbs out of the pot, you can examine them for disease, or poor bulb growth, and destroy some, if needby. The other point is bulbs usually will grow bulblets on the sides. These are usually removed to replant a single bulb again. The small bulblets ban be planted in your garden to grow up, and you then have more bulbs!! Good luck.
