Help! My husband informs me that my new flower bed is on top of what once was an old pile of lime.I have added peat ,compost and sheep manure. My fall purchase of bulbs and perennials are soon to arrive and I'm worried that without a soil test the bed may still be to alkaline. Will it hurt the bulbs? Sheila

Try some bonemeal for a quick fix until you can get some further help. If I am not mistaken, bonemear will make the soil more acidic. According to all the old-timers that I come into contact with. Bloodmeal helps with alkaline. Bonemeal with acidic soil
