I have not been able to find the Blue Himalayan Poppy anywhere. I found seeds, however and am trying to grow them, even though I read they are a difficult to grow. Anyone know anything helpful? The package says to set them in a cold storage for weeks and not protect them from light frosts. I live in southern Man, and it's still awfully cold. Plus, what????? does a cold storage mean to packagers from England? I am in love with these flowers and IF they grow they won't even bloom for a few years at least. Thanks all.

I know where you can get blue himalayan poppy plants. My sisterinlaw got me 2 plants a few years ago, but they did not survive the winter. I live in Alberta. You can get the plants at Holes Greenhouses in St. Albert, Alberta. They must have a web site but I don't know it.

Meconopsis grandis, large blue Himalayan is good for us average gardeners. They are darn hard to start from seed and will take a long time to bloom. Don't let the plant dry out, divide every 5 yrs. They like rich slightly acidic soil, add lots of peat and compost, shaded area north preference. Just run the name Lois Hole on the web and you'll get their website. Lois Hole is from Manitoba and her books are fabulous. I do believe that woman can grow anything including wooden nickels. I wish I had her talent. I do believe that poppy seeds need the cold to break the seed. Don't be afraid to throw some down and see what happens. I do this every year with my poppy seeds although they are Iceland. I threw some Oriental poppy seeds in this year and I guess I'll see what happens in spring.
