Hi. I'm new to this gardening thing and have decided to go with the Square Foot method. I'm wondering if there are any other "square footers" out there and what lessons have been learned. My garden is in Corpus Christi, TX (Z9).

I was new to gardening last year, and had posted the same type of question. In my experience, I was concerned about the spacing of all my plants. I guess it depends on your preference.....do you like your plants massed together, or spaced far apart? Also keep in mind that some plants grow larger than others over a period of time, so those ones might need more space. I spaced mine about a foot apart. It can get pretty confusing, especially if you have a lot of different types of plants that need different spacing situations. I guess it's all a matter of trial and error.....:)

I read Mel Bartholomew's book on square foot gardening last winter and tried it last summer. There sure is a lot less work when it comes to weeding and getting ready to plant takes a lot less time than rototilling. Except for the poor weather we had last summer everything turned out fairly good.
