  • Perrenials in the Pool Garden

Posted by Frances Epp on Sunday, May 6, 2007 2:37 pm ADT

I have a garden that runs along the back of our swimming pool, roughly 20 feet long and 4 feet deep. For years I have been planting annuals for a nice show through the summer, but it is a large garden and is becoming too much work for me. Are there any suggestions for small (not too tall) showy perrenials from June through September? I want something I can easily control and won't seed wildly in the interlocking brick around the pool. Thanks.

Would you consider putting a few shrubs into the bed to help out the space factor? I was thinking a purpleleaf sandcherry, they can grow really tall, but keep them pruned. Or even a few rose bushes? Then I would mix in some perennials...some off the top of my head would even be like a blanket flower, bellis, sedum, yarrow, even a few lilies? There are so many different things you could do...I would love to be shopping for the plants for it. I would keep a few annuals in there too just to keep it bright. Hope you have fun with it, I would be!

I forgot to mention, if you are putting in some perennials read the label to make sure it doesn't say invasive, or look at the spread of the plant....if it is alot...watch out for the plants roaming itno your interlocking pavers, they can make a big mess of it.
