I have a 5 year old Pfitzer Juniper, it does well every year and all I do is water it occasionally .This spring it has about a foot of dead golden tips that crumble in your hands ,then underneath there is evidence of green shoots I know it is suppose to have gold tips but these are dead.Is anyone familiar with this juniper? What should I do? Thanks, Sharon

I avoid planting many Juniper in the landscape because of this disappointing problem... some winters are very hard on Junipers. Fortunately you have new growth appearing, which is a good sign that your shrub will recover. Prune all of the dead dead tips down to green shoots--- ideally outward facing buds that will fill the empty spaces left from pruning. Dispose of the dead material as it may contain a disease. Junipers are susceptable to Phomopsis and Kabatina blights which are prevalent in wet weather.
