Hi Gardeners: With limited space, I'm thinking of planting cucumbers close to pumpkins - but something tells me this is a bad idea due to cross polination. Is this true or did I dream this? Thanks :-)

Irene, There is no problem planting cucumbers close to pumpkins. Pumpkins will cross polinate with squash, and some gourds. This cross pollination will not affect the fruit. The only way it would be a problem would be if you planned on saving the seed from the fruit. Then you might end up with some wierd pumpkins next year! Best Regards Angus Mellish Veseys Seeds

Hi Irene, If you have limited space you may want to read the book square foot gardening. It talks about growing pumpkins and cukes vertically. I'm going to be trying vertical growing in my garden this summer. The book is based on the theory of growing more in less space, which is less work as there is less weeding
