  • Reed grass, cat tails, swamp grass

I have been wanting to plant this type of grass in th bottoms of the ditches surrounding my property and have not been very sucessful in the matter. The ditches are very wet must of the yearsprings and the run off down to the lake. I am trying to make the ditches look natural and eliminate the need for cutting them. Does anyone know how to be sucessful in planting these types of plants?

Hello Philip: Did you get any responses to your question regarding grass that could be planted in ditches? Our ditches and pond are full of tall grasses but it is difficult, but not impossible, to get seed (need to walk in the ditch, or ?). Another issue is getting it to grow; it does grow naturally without difficulty. Our farm is near Windsor, Ontario. My brother, who lives in Northern Alberta, is interested in buying seed to serve the same purpose you stated. Do you know if the grass can be used where cattle graze? I would appreciate a response by email. Olga Crocker

Swamp grass and cattails are changing changing my water front property to an unuseable swamp. Is there a spray I can use to kill the grass and cattails.

I have a small lake in Ohio with the same problem. The Cat Tails are starting to take over. How can I kill them without harming the fish ? Thanks !

I have either swamp grass or reed grass growing out back of my home in a ditch type stream. It has overgrown and taken over my back yard. It also has created the water to start running under my trailer. What can I do to get rid of it.
