I would say yes, bleeding hearts can do well in shade. I have one under the afternoon shade of a lilac bush and it is doing great!

Jenna,Bleeding Hearts do like the shade,They also can tolerate some dappled sun,so plant them along side your Hostas it should look lovely.

I have my bleeding heart and hosta both planted in the shade, and they are doing very well. I also have a hosta planted under a tree and it seems to love it!

i have a mixed shade bed that gets morning early afternoon sun. I have hostas and bleeding heart and coral bell together. It does very well, almost too well it was the site of my old compost bins and I have to cut the bleeding hearts back there so big.
