Help! I planted two varities of potatoes this year ( russet & chieftan), everything seemed to being going great. Today I noticed that the leaves (both species) had a lot of tiny holes (1/16" or smaller) and upon closer inspection I could see some very small insects. They were black and when I tried to touch them they would jump like fleas. What are these insects and are they the culperts that are putting the holes in my potatoe leaves? What do I do to get rid of these pests/ or is that necessary? Thanks ; Wayne in N.S.

Hi, it sounds a little like a potatoe beetle. There is a powder you can buy at any gardening center to rid yourself of them! Hope this helps.

hi, You figured out your problem? It is flea beetles! I have seen them in many a fields here in PEI! They are a comman problem. You can spray for them if they are doing alot of damage. I have them in my beets and chard for years, sometimes when they get really bad I will spray for them.
