  • Kinshi tree peony

This spring I planted a bare-root Kinshi tree peony (from Vesey's). It looks quite healthy, but has only grown about 12 inches - final height is supposed to be 4-5 feet. Is this amount of growth normal for the first spring? I think I planted according to instructions for depth. Thanks.

Tree peonies generally take a few years to mature before they bloom. It is busy developing a good root system now. Maybe next year. They just get better and better over time with more blooms. They are beautiful and well worth the wait!

It is true that tree peonies take several years to produce blooms. I have one (from veseys) that is 5-7 years old. This year it is 4 feet tall and wide, it put on such a show that people were stopping by the side of the road to look at it. I have been so impressed with tree peonies that I now own over 10. I wait with anticipation every spring for their blooms. Enjoy!!
