    my bleeding heart bush has finished blooming for the most part and is beginning to look scruffy -- to what degree can it be cut back to allow other later blooming flowers to have more room

      Hi Sandy: your bleeding heart bush will eventually whither away to nothing anyway, so there's nothing wrong with cutting it off at the ground.

      I let mine die back and when turned yellow, I cut it off at the ground level
