  • Foxtail lilies (Eremurus)

I live in zone 6b I need some information on when to plant foxtail lilies. I've ordered some from the fall catalogue and it gives conflicting zones. one says 5-8 and the other page says 5b. Everyone I've talked to here says plant them in the spring. Why are they available in the fall catalogue if they are not meant to be planted now. I don't want to loose them by planting at the wrong time . Any suggestions? Thanks.

Foxtail lilies can be successfully planted in the Fall. They will remain dormant for the winter, and start to grow for you in the Spring. When looking at hardiness zones, sometimes only the lowest number is indicated. As long as your hardiness zone is higher than the lowest zone listed for the plant, it will successfully overwinter in your area. (In this case, the plant is hardy down to zone 5 and you are in zone 6 so all is well.)
