I'm new at Cannas and planned to store the "bulbs" over winter. We had a frost a couple of nights ago so today I dug them up very carefully and looked at my instructions for the next step..I'd missed the part about letting the tops wilt and they still look fine. Is there any way I can save them? I've already washed them off so probably replanting is not an option?? Help!

I did the same thing I few years ago when I had Cannas. (Did not wait for the tops to start dying back). Anyway, I just washed them off, and packed them up in a small new tote, and put them away in a cool spot in the house. They did really well, until my mother decided to visit in February and decided that the location of this tote was not in a good place, she wanted to put something else in the space. So she took my Cannas, and placed them on top of a heating register! ;( Needless to say, 1 week like that and they where beyond salvagable as I was not able to plant them ASAP. Good Luck!

Was given some cannas 2 years ago. Managed to dig them up in fall, put in a above freezing cold room and promptly forgot about them until late July. Finally planted them in a semi shaded area, gave them frequent waterings & they grew up fine; unfortunately too late for blooming in Alberta. This year will be better since I kept them lightly moistened thru winter and plan to put out by the end of May. They already have a few leaves coming on them in my cold storage. My experience with these lovely plants seems to show they are quite amendable and hardy.
