  • Zone 4-5 When to Start Veggies Indoors?

Generally speaking when can I start my veggies indoors? I used to plant the long weekend in May but I am finding we always have a frost after that so I thought I would start indoors early, plant outside in early to mid May (weather permitting) and use crop covers (?) if we have a frost... Suggestions? I plan to plant lots of veggies...dont' have the final list yet :-)

Take the expected last frost date in your area and count backwards from it. In Montreal area, it is now said to be May 10th. Most tomatoes are 6-8 weeks, so that would be March 15-30, etc.. etc. for an indoor planting date. We are zone 5-B so I asume your area would be later than May 10th. THIS IS ASSUMING A NORMAL YEAR, but Montreal area appears to be about two weeks late because of the heavy winter snows.
