Using the equipment shown online can I keep the system alive in the outdoors in a zone 2 to 3 area? Can I start it this winter or do I have to wait until spring? Thanks.

You can set up a worm bin at any time of the year, even in the depth of winter, indoors. Start a new bin in the basement or any heated area in the house, then come spring it can be extended and moved into the garden for the summer. Come fall before frosts, restart the interior bin from worms from the garden.

I compost with worms indoors in winter using a Rubbermaid container. I have a problem with small flies in my worm bins. Is this also a problem with the worm bin system sold by Veseys?

Put damp news paper on top of the bedding, this will help with flies. You may also want to feed less as well.

I thought this may be of interest to forum members. It is a website with plans on building a very innovative yet simple vermicomposting bin. You can google "greenwiggler"
