  • Dead joseph's coat rose?

Hi all, I am not sure if the winter has killed it but all the branches were dark and dry and I had to prune to the bottom and I don't see any green branches? Is it dead? I even covered it for the winter. thx

I too have a joseph's coat rose in my yard. I'am a 4a zone. I cover all my roses. I place leaves around the base then encircle chicken wire and stuff with leaves as insulation. Some of the branches may be black but I merely trim it off to where it is green. You may have to redig it up to see if there is life on the stalk and how you do it is once you have the stalk up you simply take a small knife and knotch just enough to see if the stalk is a little green if it shows just a blackened stalk or woody then its probably dead.
