Dichelostema congestum (F)
Hardy to Zone 4
Grow this American wildflower in full sun or partial shade in rich, well-drained soil. Plant corms in early fall, 3 inches deep for small corms, and up to 5 inches deep for large ones. Best results occur when planted close together, 2-3 inches apart. Plants require even moisture while actively growing, and warm dry conditions while dormant during the summer. Since the foliage is often dying back when the plants are flowering, under plant with shallow-rooted annuals such as alyssum or violas. Can be grown in containers. Propagate by separating offsets just as the plants go dormant or by seeds.
