Abyssinian Gladiolus (S)
Gladiolus callianthus murielae
Hardy in Zone 8.
Formerly known as Acidenthera murielae, this close relative of gladiolus needs full sun and good loamy soil. As soon as the soil starts to warm in spring, set the corms 4" deep and 8" apart, in groups of at least 3 for a graceful and showy display. The fragrant flowers, which bloom over an extended period in late summer, make a gorgeous long-lived cutflower. In zones lower than 8, dig the bulbs before fall frost and store in a cool place over winter. May overwinter in Zone 7 with protection.
