The Power of Broccoli!

*Grown for 2000 years
*Cancer Fighter
*Full of Antioxidants
*Low calorie snack
*Gives you longer life!

Per capita consumption of broccoli has taken great leaps in the past decade after several scientific studies indicated that broccoli contains hight levels of glucosinolates. This compound is known to stimulate the body's natural defences that reduce the risk of cancer. Broccoli is also low in saturated fat and sodium and is a good source of vitamins A & C, calcium, potassium, folate, iron and dietary fiber. Broccoli is a 'must' vegetable for every garden!

Tips: Well-prepared, rich, loose soil that holds moisture well and has a pH level of 6.0-6.5. Broccoli is a heavy feeder. A side dressing of high nitrogen fertilizer during growing season would be beneficial. Sow seed thinly, 1/4 - 1/2 inch (.5 - 1 cm) deep. Transplant or thin small plants to 15-18 inches (38-45cm) apart. Rows 2-3 feet (60-90 cm) apart. Broccoli seedlings are ready for transplanting when they are about 3" (7 cm) high. Set the seedlings about 1" (2.5 cm) deeper then they were in their flats. For an early crop, start indoors 4-5 weeks before average last frost or direct seed in the garden in early May. Broccoli loves cool weather and will head prematurely in warm temperatures. We suggest a second planting in late June for a fall harvest.

Seed Counts: A package contains about 150-300 seeds. 1M = 1000.
