Can Can Red Carnation
Dianthus caryophyllus. An All America Selections Winner. The large, beautiful double 2 inch blooms are just as stunning as the sweet fragrance of this great garden performer. With their strong stems and excellent base, this hybrid is a good cut flower, planted in the garden as a border or used in patio containers. This plant produces abundant flowers throughout the growing season and well into early fall in most areas as it has great cold tolerance. Height 15-20". Approximately 10 seeds/pkg.
Start inside 8-10 weeks before planting outside. Cover seed lightly and provide a soil temperature of 21 degrees C. Should germinate in 1-2 weeks. May also be direct seeded outside in early spring or autumn. Transplant outside in early spring into a full sun location, 12 inches apart.
Do not cut back plants in fall or spring, just trim flowerstalks after flowering. Divide in early spring every 3 years.
