Origanum vulgare. The great flavour of Zaatar includes hints of oregano, thyme and marjoram and is a staple in Middle Eastern cuisine. The foliage is richly scented and spicy. The plant is 3 feet high and wide and does well in containers. This variety prefers poor to medium fertile soil. Approx. 100 seeds/pkg.
Sow seeds 1⁄8 inch deep indoors in early spring. Keep at a temperature of 70 degrees F. Plant outside when seedlings are 3 inches tall, in clumps; do not overwater. Prefers full sun and well drained soil.
Harvest just before the plants are in full flower. Cut stems with flower heads attached and hang upside down in an airy, cool place.
