Stevia rebaudiana. Grow your own sweetener! This tender perennial makes a great addition to your herb garden but is also well suited for container growing. Pot it up and bring it indoors in the autumn and you can enjoy it throughout the winter months. The plants produce a healthy yield of leaves which when dried, gives you a great healthy alternative to sugar, yet the taste is even sweeter! Close to 300 times sweeter than sugar, this herbal alternative can be used fresh or dried, as a powder or a liquid. Approx. 20 seeds/pkg.
Surface sow seed 8 weeks before last frost date or anytime if you plan to grow inside. Germinate using gentle bottom heat. Provide good drainage and do not overwater.
Plant outside after all risk of frost is past, 8 inches apart into a full sun location. If you wish to overwinter the plants inside, remove from your garden before the temperature drops below 10 degrees C. Excellent in containers.
Use the leaves, fresh or dried, directly in hot drinks. You can use ground powder or liquid in baking or desserts.
