Growing Information
Planting:
Direct seed fennel mid-spring through late summer or start transplants 4-5 weeks before planting date. Plant outdoors after danger of hard frost has passed. Bolting can result from disturbing the roots. Sow seeds directly into the garden about 1⁄4-1/2 inch deep about 6 to 12 inches apart. Prefers well drained soil and full sun.
Growing:
Heavy clay soils will hinder seed growth. The beds should be kept moist for 2 weeks or until the first leaves appear. Take care then not to overwater.
Harvesting:
Harvest bulbs at 3-4” in diameter.
Pests:
Aphids, whitefly and lepidopterous larvae can be controlled by floating row cover in areas where they are a problem.
